RIT student who went missing the week of Thanksgiving found safe in Pennsylvania
Matthew Grant, the 22-year-old Rochester Institute of Technology student who went missing last month, has been found and is safe, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
Grant originally went missing Monday, Nov. 20, when he left his off-campus home in Henrietta without his cell phone, wallet or telling anyone his plans.
Matthew’s father, Mark, tells us his son was found Wednesday afternoon, roughly 300 miles away from RIT’s campus in Pennsylvania.
Authorities tell us police in the town of Delaware Water Gap, Pennsylvania, found Grant’s car Tuesday, sparking search and rescue efforts Wednesday, as crews performed grid searches on Mount Minsi for several hours. Grant is an avid hiker, and that area is very mountainous with steep drop-offs.
Yet, authorities tell us it was during that search effort when Grant himself found out about the search effort. At that point, he went into a police station in Palmerton, Pennsylvania, and asked to make a phone call. That’s when he called his mother and told her he was safe and coming home.
