Rockstar Games Confirms Remaster of “Red Dead Redemption” for PS4 and Nintendo Switch
For fans eagerly anticipating news of a remaster or remake of the beloved video game “Red Dead Redemption,” the wait is finally over. Rockstar Games has officially confirmed that a port of the original game will be coming to the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch.
Speculation about the possibility of a remaster had been circulating for some time, but Rockstar Games put an end to the rumors with their recent announcement. The port, which was released on Friday, seems to be running smoothly, in stark contrast to the controversial release of the “Grand Theft Auto Trilogy: Definitive Edition.”
One notable improvement in the port is the inclusion of AMD’s FSR, which offers slight enhancements compared to the original Xbox 360 version. However, it is worth noting that this remaster is not a complete overhaul of the game.
A recent discovery by Twitter user National Pepper has sparked even more speculation about the nature of this remaster project. After delving into the files for the Nintendo Switch version of the game, they found that the executable file from Double Eleven Studios, the development studio involved in the port, is titled “rdrremaster.” This finding has led to questions about whether the initial plan was to create a full remaster but was scaled back after the negative reception of the “GTA Trilogy” remaster.
The term “remaster” can be subjective, as it encompasses a wide range of efforts and improvements. Based on this definition, Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of Rockstar Games, could technically consider this port a remaster.
Despite some initial backlash over the game’s $50 price point, “Red Dead Redemption” is performing well on sales charts over a decade after its original release. In the U.K., it is currently the best-selling PS4 game on the PlayStation Store. In the U.S., it ranks as the fourth best-selling PS4 game and the sixth best-selling Switch game.
