by time news

Ex-boss of Canal+ and Eutelsat, administrator of Netflix, he will be responsible for platforming the TF1 group.

We didn’t have to wait a week. After the failure of the merger between TF1 and M6, the TF1 group decided to turn the page. Rodolphe Belmer joins the audiovisual group to eventually take over as chairman, replacing Gilles Pélisson, who will take up new duties within the Bouygues group.

Initially, Rodolphe Belmer will be appointed Chief Executive Officer from October 27, while Gilles Pélisson will retain the role of Chairman of the Board of Directors. But the transition period will be short-lived, since Rodolphe Belmer will become CEO on February 13, 2023.

Aged 53, the latter is a great TV specialist. He led the Canal + group from 2003 to 2015 as general manager. Ousted from the group after the takeover of Vivendi, parent company of Canal +, by Vincent Bolloré, Rodolphe Belmer rebounded at Eutelsat, the satellite operator for six years from 2016 to 2021.

He left the group to try to save Atos, of which he was chief executive for only a few months. In July 2022, in conflict with Bertrand Meunier, the non-executive chairman of Atos, he presented the IT group’s strategic plan before bowing out.

Netflix Administrator

In addition to his various management positions, Rodolphe Belmer is also close to Reed Hastings, the boss of Netflix who welcomed him to the board of directors of the American giant. Rodolphe Belmer had pushed Canal+ very early on to buy Netflix when the latter was still only a small group betting on video streaming. But Canal+ only bought a minority stake before selling it.

On Netflix’s board of directors, Rodolphe Belmer learned all the tricks of the video streaming platform business. A very valuable experience that will serve him to successfully transform the TF1 group into a group of video streaming platforms.
