Swiss tennis player Roger Federer announced Thursday, September 15 his upcoming retirement, at the end of a career that will have seen him, “for twenty-four years”, argue “more than 1,500 games” on tennis courts around the world.
“The Laver Cup next week will be my last event [du circuit] ATP »the 41-year-old announced in a statement posted on Twitter. The team competition will take place from September 23-25 in London.

“A bittersweet decision”
The former world number one, holder of twenty Grand Slam titles, has not played in international competition since his elimination in the quarter-finals of Wimbledon in 2021 due to a knee injury. “I know the capacities and the limits of my body, the message it sent to me lately is clear”writes the player to explain his decision.
« It’s a bittersweet decision because I will miss everything the circuit has given me. But, at the same time, there is so much to celebrate.”, he adds. In this four-page press release, Roger Federer sends long thanks to his fans, his relatives and his teams and says he considers himself a “one of the luckiest people on earth” at the end of his twenty-one years of high-level competition.
