New Delhi: Former Congress spokesperson Rohan Gupta joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday. Taking aim at the opposition alliance INDIA, he said that this alliance formed in the name of the country includes ‘anti-national elements’. Addressing the media at the BJP headquarters after joining the party, Gupta also alleged that Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh had asked party leaders to ‘remain silent’ during the consecration of Ram Lalla in the Ayodhya temple.
Gupta said, ‘How many contradictions can there be? There is a communication in-charge whose name has ‘Ram’, he asked us to keep quiet when Sanatan (religion) was being insulted…An alliance was formed using the name of the country but it included ‘anti-national forces’ Were done.
He also hit out at the Congress, asking why it was ‘compelled’ to support AAP, which is led by Arvind Kejriwal, whom the Congress had accused of having links with Khalistanis.
He asked, ‘What is the compulsion that Kejriwal, who was accused by the Congress of having links with Khalistanis, is being supported by the same party today?’
Gupta joined BJP on Thursday in the presence of Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and party national general secretary Vinod Tawde.
Gupta had resigned from the Congress last month after withdrawing his candidature from Ahmedabad East Lok Sabha constituency. The leader had resigned from the Congress alleging ‘continuous insults’ and ‘character assassination’ by a Congress leader associated with the party’s communication department.
