Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Wednesday that Rohingya infiltration into India has increased significantly and the threat of demographic change is real and serious. Sarma said in a press conference here that Rohingyas are continuously coming to India using the India-Bangladesh border and many states are facing the problem of demographic change.Accusation on Bengal and Jharkhand government
He said Assam was guarding only a part of the India-Bangladesh border but a large area was still open. The chief minister alleged that the West Bengal and Jharkhand governments were adopting a soft approach towards these intruders and had not taken any action to stop it. Sarma said the West Bengal chief minister (Mamata Banerjee) had made a statement that the state would give shelter to those coming from Bangladesh, which was not even supported by the neighbouring country’s government.

Assam and Tripura governments took strict measures
He said the Assam and Tripura governments have taken strict measures in this matter and the police of both the states have arrested many Rohingya infiltrators on several occasions. The Chief Minister said that Assam is no longer a safe haven for Rohingyas because we do not adopt a soft policy. Our situation is better than West Bengal and Jharkhand. The situation has not worsened since the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government came to power in Assam.
