Mohali: Indian captain Rohit hit a world record six in the second match of the T20 series against Australia. Rohit hit the third ball of the first over bowled by Josh Hazelwood for a six and set the world record for most sixes in T20 cricket. Rohit surpassed New Zealand’s Martin Guptill’s record of 172 sixes with his first six against Hazelwood.

Next ball, Rohit hit sixes against Pat Cummins in the second over and Adam Sampa in the third over to take his total to 175. Going into the second T20 against Aussies, Rohit was tied with New Zealand opener Martin Guptill’s record for most sixes in T20 cricket. Rohit equaled Guptill’s record by smashing Pat Cummins for six in the first match in Mohali.

Windies star Chris Gayle is behind Rohit and Guptill with 124 sixes. Former England captain Eoin Morgan is fourth with 120 sixes and Australian captain Aaron Finch is fifth with 117 sixes.

Rohit has not been able to rise to form as an opener this year. Only two half-centuries were born from Rohit’s bat this year. Despite his excellent strike rate of 143.38, Rohit’s return in the power play itself was a setback for India in many matches.

Rohit holds many records in T20 cricket. Rohit is the only batsman with four centuries in T20 Internationals and is the most capped male cricketer in T20Is. Rohit shares the record for most half-centuries in T20 cricket with Virat Kohli. Both have 31 fifties.
