Indian captain Rohit Sharma was dismissed for 42 runs in the third and final ODI against Sri Lanka in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday. Rohit Sharma has gone 50 innings without scoring a century in international cricket. While talking to Star Sports, Gautam Gambhir expressed his concern over Rohit Sharma’s century drought.
Comparisons have been made with star batsman Virat Kohli, who failed to register a century in over three years.
“We have to talk at the same stage. Virat Kohli did not get a century for three and a half years. I think Rohit is blaming himself. It will be equally difficult for Rohit Sharma. 50 innings, it’s not like he didn’t score a century in a match or two. “If you look at the last ODI World Cup, one thing is missing from his game and that is the ability to score those centuries,” Gambhir said.
Gambhir urged Rohit to convert his good starts into big performances even if he is playing well. Rohit’s last century was against England at The Oval in September 2021. Meanwhile, Kohli has scored three centuries in his last four ODI innings. He ended his century drought after scoring his maiden T20 century against Afghanistan in the Asia Cup last year.
