We even invited the president of Lithuania and the first lady, who have already visited Rokiški. We also invited representatives of embassies, with which Rokiškis cooperates in various fields, and many distinguished guests. We know that 7 international delegations from the cities with which Rokiškis has partnership relations will definitely come – two delegations from Poland – the cities of Červionka Leščyny and Pobianice, two delegations from Latvia – the cities of Cēsis and Jekapbilis, one from the city of Tapa in Estonia and international city partners Douzelage ” the president of the organization, who lives in Ireland. And, of course, our friends from the city of Dubna in Ukraine – mayor Vasilyj Antonyiuk with a delegation, as it turned out, bringing a gallery of children’s drawings to Rokiškis”, – says I. Matelienė presents the program for the guests.
Echoes of the Centennial Song Festival together with Liudus Mikalauskas
As I. Matelienė notes, the Song Festival is one of the brightest, most interesting and, of course, loudest events for Rokiškis’ birthday.
The song festival project, in which Latvians also participate – song and dance groups from our city partner Jekabpils – is supported by the Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values of the European Union (English Citizens, equality, rights and values – CERV) program, City Partnerships (eng. Town Twinning) subroutine. 27,905 euros have been allocated to the project from the mentioned EU program.
More than 450 participants from Lithuania and Latvia will participate in the song festival.
The host of the celebration is Liudas Mikalauskas, a performer loved by the audience. Each of the collectives will perform three pieces, and at the end of the festival, it is expected to move the audience as well. “I am most looking forward to singing songs with the charismatic Liudus Mikalauskas. We have prepared well-known songs for everyone: “A falcon will fly”, “We will sing when we stop”, “A maple tree grows in the yard”. The latter song is very suitable for marching, so we will sing one of its verses in the festive procession”, says I. Matelienė about the upcoming program.
The performers will start rehearsals on Saturday at 11 am. in Sąjūdis Square, and in the afternoon they will line up for the festive procession, which will start at 4:30 p.m. from Independence Square will move along Respublikas Street towards Sąjūdis Square. The procession will be led by the Air Force Orchestra of the Lithuanian Armed Forces. “We will sing the famous slogan “Rokiški’s heart is alive/Love’s name is Lithuania” created by our native Danutė Mažeikienė for the centenary Song Festival, which was very warmly received in Vilnius and was chanted by everyone around,” says I. Matelienė.
at 5 p.m. A festive program will begin in Sąjūdis Square. The greetings of the district mayor and guests will be replaced by dances and dances of Lithuanian and Latvian songs, and the audience will be greeted with the song “Kieman’s guests have arrived”.
Rehearsals – with a musician
I. Matelienė reminds that before the city festival, the collectives of institutions have the opportunity to gather together and remember Lithuanian songs. And singing will be helped by teacher, professional musician Algis Bagdonas, who can be invited by calling phone +370 686 32 759.
Resolution
I. Matelienė points out that the performers of the Song Festival will also have to perform a mission, which is mandated by the EU program that provided support. The main content of the resolution “To protect and love amateur art and art lovers” can be found in the title.
“We want to start discussions about the conditions of art lovers’ collectives in preparation for performances, programs and concerts. They are not professionals, they are ordinary people who give their free time and money to participate in various activities: singing, dancing, making music, acting in the theater and so on. Their free performances fill the programs of public holidays and civic events. We think that it is necessary to start talking about funding programs for creative expression, for which art lovers could also apply”, says I. Matelienė, adding that this will be a great opportunity to thank all the participants and leaders of the Song Festival. And for those who spent long hours preparing for the centennial Song Festival, and for those who came to Rokiškis’ birthday, sparing neither their time nor their efforts.
A gift for young people and lovers of active sports – SKATE parkas
In the Rotary Park of Rokiškis, near the swimming pool and the sports arena under construction, the installation of a roller, skateboard and BMX bike park started this year (SKATE parkas).
According to the district mayor R. Godeliauskas, it is one of the largest and most modern SKATE parks in Lithuania, its area reaches about 800 sq. m.
SKATE the park project was implemented in cooperation not only with young people interested in this sport, but also with local businessmen and the Rotary Club of Rokiškis. A local business agreed to make the entire foundation for the park, pour the entire site, and the municipality bought the equipment for the park and its installation services.
It was expected that SKATE the park will be completed in July, but the work has been delayed, so it has been decided to open it on the anniversary of the city’s birthday, Friday, September 20, at 4 p.m.
Youth music night
Rokiškis cultural center director Vaiva Kirstukienė points out that she will cheer up the youth during the city’s birthday not only SKATE opening of the park. “Friday from 9 p.m. In L. At the same time, we really want to ask for the understanding of the surrounding residents – Rokiškis doesn’t celebrate jubilee birthdays every year, let’s let the young people have fun and dance for at least one night and don’t be angry that the music will play longer”, says V. Kirstukienė.
Motorcyclist parade and spectacular performance
Two more non-traditional events await on Friday. At the Rokiškis manor at 7 p.m. there will be a parade of motorcyclists who will say happy birthday by passing through Rokiškis in a festive circle, and at 8 p.m. everyone is invited to the presentation of the creative work of ART’s residency – an audiovisual performance in memory of the painter and scenographer Juzefa Čeičyte. The performance will take place at the Rokiškis manor, audiovisuals will be shown on the walls of the manor. “I suggest not to miss the opportunity to see how the works of artists who lived before come to life and sound new with the use of modern technologies. It will be really impressive, so mark this event”, advises V. Kirstukienė.
Fairs, attractions, entertainment, sports clubs
According to V. Kirstukienė, there will also be something to do in the city between birthday events and concerts. “On Saturday from 12 o’clock A festive fair and an amusement park will open in Sąjūdis Square, part of Respublikas Street. “This year we will set up a clown yard for children. Clowns of various heights will be waiting for the little ones here – from tall to small. And many activities and fun with them”, says V. Kirstukienė.
Concerts
Linas Adomaitis, who will come to perform on Rokiškis’ birthday, will continue to take over the echoes of the song festival. “This is one of the favorite and most awaited artists of the Rokiškės. Linas Adomaitis will be performing in Rokišky for the first time, I am glad that we managed to invite this wonderful performer. As well as Tadas and Iglė and Saulius Prūsaitis who performed after him. All artists have their own color and style. So, on Rokiškis’ birthday, impressive concerts are waiting, which will be crowned by festive fireworks”, V. Kirstukienė introduced the program of the upcoming concert.
