Roland Kobia has officially taken up his duties as the new ambassador of the European Union to Madagascar. He succeeds Isabelle Delatre-Burger, who the Malagasy government called for her recall after repeatedly criticizing her.

Roland Kobia is the Ambassador of the European Union to the Republic of Madagascar and the Union of the Comoros, after holding the same function in Ethiopia (2021-2024). Before that, he was EU Special Envoy to Afghanistan (2017-2021), EU Ambassador to Myanmar/Burma (2013-2017), EU Ambassador to Azerbaijan (2009-2013). He was a Diplomatic Adviser in the Office of the European Commissioner for Energy (2006-2009).

When Rafaravavitafika Rasata presented the authentic copy of his credentials to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, he insisted on the need to maintain constructive interactions between the EU Delegation and the Malagasy authorities in order to improve the effectiveness of their cooperation. Both parties are committed to continuing this dialogue, favoring a collaborative approach and positive exchanges, to strengthen their partnership and respond to the challenges facing Madagascar.
