This two-day meeting, jointly organized by the Office des Changes and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), was an opportunity to highlight the role of FDI in the economic development of the Kingdom and their impact, in particular, in terms of integrating the national economy into global value chains.

Speaking on this occasion, the Secretary General of the Foreign Exchange Office, Driss Benchikh, indicated that this workshop is of great use for the conduct of a public policy both for Morocco and its partners and is part of the partnership with the OECD, based on a win-win approach allowing Morocco to benefit from support, particularly in terms of diversification of the economy, development of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), job creation, water governance, education and social inclusion.

“The workshop offers the opportunity to review the statistics of foreign direct investments, the importance of which for public decision-making is no longer in doubt, and to highlight the role of foreign direct investments, which contribute greatly to the economic and social development of our country,” Mr. Benchikh stressed.

And to make it known that it is also an opportunity to proceed with the evaluation of the FDI statistics established by the Foreign Exchange Office and their conformity with international standards and to examine the progress of the implementation of the recommendations from the OECD Morocco country program in terms of investment.

For his part, Ahmed Khalid Benomar, advisor to the Minister of Economy and Finance, noted that this workshop is part of a strategic program between the Kingdom and the OECD to “move from technical to strategic” with a view to improving public policies.

The workshop aims to capitalize on the work of several years, present and discuss it as well as show the pivotal role of the Office des Changes in the national economic ecosystem and in the centralization of data, know-how and knowledge, added Mr. Benomar.

For her part, the head of the investment division at the OECD, Ana Novik, who spoke remotely, stressed that Morocco is an important partner for the OECD in general and the investor communities in particular, noting that the holding of this workshop, which is part of the second phase of the country program, aims to support Morocco in the process of implementing the recommendations in the first phase to align with international standards.

Led by national and international experts, this meeting is marked by the participation of various departments and public bodies, economic partners, international organizations and national and international experts and researchers.

The themes included in the workshop program will focus in particular on the methodology for establishing statistics relating to FDI and on the compliance of the Office des Changes with international standards in this area.
