The captain of the Russian national football team, midfielder Roman Shirokov, in an interview with R-Sport, said that he had taken his work book from the CSKA football club. At the moment, the footballer is already a free agent. He also said that if he did not receive decent offers from the clubs, he was ready to end his playing career.

“I came to the conclusion: if I fail to find a worthy option to continue my player’s career, then it is better to finish and find a job in Russia and not lose all contacts. There is not much left to play, well, I’ll play for two or three years, and then what? For me now money is not the most important thing, I have other incentives, ”Shirokov said.

He recalled that his contract with CSKA ended during the European Championship. The parties did not renew the contract. “The papers had to be signed, the work book had to be taken away. Naturally, I communicated and am grateful to the club, the team for the time spent and the work done together, ”the athlete said.

Three-time champion of Russia, winner of the National Cup, Cup and UEFA Super Cup, bronze medalist of the 2008 European Championship. 35-year-old Shirokov finished last RFPL season as part of CSKA Moscow, where he moved from Spartak Moscow in winter. At the end of June, the general director of the army team, Roman Babaev, said that the probability of the midfielder leaving the team was high. Earlier it became known that Shirokov had options for performing outside of Russia, in particular in the United States. However, he refused to move overseas.
