Olympiakos is ready to finalize a significant transfer move by acquiring Roman Yaremchuk, who arrived in Greece early Monday morning to complete his transfer to the red-and-whites.

The experienced forward was born in Lviv, Ukraine, on February 27, 1995. He is 28 years old, stands 1.91 m tall, and boasts a remarkable resume, having played for Benfica, Valencia, Dynamo Kyiv, and Gent, with a total of 330 appearances at the club level, achieving 93 goals and 32 assists.

Yaremchuk started his career from the Dynamo Kyiv academies and began playing with the second team in 2015. Two years later, in January 2017, he signed his first professional contract with the first team.

In the 2016/17 season, he was loaned to the Ukrainian club Alexandria before completing his first transfer outside his country.

The first transfer outside Ukraine and the rise

Thus, in August of the same year, he moved to Belgium to play for Gent, which paid 2 million euros.

He played for Gent for four years, from 2017 to 2021, during which he thrived, having the most appearances with any team in his career.

In the 152 matches he played with the Belgian team, he scored 61 goals and provided 18 assists, leading to a move in July 2021 when Benfica came in with an offer of 18.5 million euros to make him theirs.

The return to Belgium, the first title, and the loan to Valencia

In Lisbon, he stayed for a year and then returned to Belgium to continue his career at Club Brugge, where he still plays today. The “eagles” gained 16 million euros from this transfer.

Overall, with Club Brugge, the 28-year-old has recorded 32 appearances, scoring six goals and providing three assists, while this year he celebrated winning the league, marking the first title of his career.

Before being loaned to Valencia last September, with which he made 29 appearances and scored four goals, he played in the Conference League qualifiers with Brugge, scoring four goals including a hat-trick against Akureyri.

Yaremchuk at the Euros

Roman Yaremchuk is also one of the most important players for the Ukrainian national team, having 53 caps, with 18 goals, and he has also played for his country’s youth national teams.

He was called up to the senior national team in September 2018, at the age of 22, and scored his first goal in June 2019, helping his team secure a 2-1 victory over Portugal to qualify for the final phase of Euro 2020.

He competed in Euro 2020 (which took place in the summer of 2021 due to the coronavirus), scored two goals, and was present at the recent Euro 2024 in Germany, where he played in all three group matches – starting in only one – even scoring against Slovakia.
