Romania demanded unification of energy prices in the EU”/>

Minister of Energy of Romania Sebastian Burduja stated that Eastern European countries should not pay significantly more for energy than Western European countries, as has happened in recent months, Day.Az reports with reference to TASS.

“Together with our colleagues from Greece and Bulgaria, we have officially appealed to the European Commission demanding a fair approach and the creation of a functional energy union,” he wrote on Facebook.

“It is unfair and abnormal that Eastern Europe pays much more for energy than Western Europe, which has happened repeatedly in recent months,” the Romanian minister noted. He emphasized two main reasons for this: a lack of connectivity in the center of Europe, especially in Austria and Slovakia, where cheap energy generated in the West is effectively stuck, and increased energy demand in the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine, which further raises prices in the region.

“We respect the common European obligations of the single market, but demand equal rights. Without reliable and affordable energy supplies, development is impossible. In recent years, we have tried our best to maintain a price ceiling for consumers, but we cannot tolerate injustice in the European energy market,” he added Burduja.
