The Government of Romania has “categorically” denied the alleged crash of Russian drones on Romanian territory, despite the complaint raised a few hours earlier by the spokesman for the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Oleg Nikolenko, who did report an incident of these characteristics during a wave of attacks on the Odessa region.
Nikolenko has indicated on his Facebook account that at least one of the unmanned aircraft used against the port of Izmail, on the banks of the Danube, has fallen on the other side of the border, which would confirm that “Russian missile terror represents a huge threat to the security not only of Ukraine, but also of neighboring countries”.
For this reason, it has called on international partners to continue helping the Ukrainian forces with anti-aircraft defense systems.
However, the Romanian Ministry of Defense has qualified in a statement that, after following the attacks on Ukraine “in real time”, they can verify that at no time has the national territory been threatened, according to the official agency. He did want to stress, however, that attacks against civilian targets are “unjustified” and contravene International Law.
The Romanian government had already condemned another wave of bombardments on Odessa on Sunday, in a message from Foreign Minister Luminita Odobescu, citing the attacks on the port of Reni as an example. “The international community must bring those responsible for these war crimes to justice,” she claimed.
The governor of Odesa, Oleg Kiper, indicated on Monday in his Telegram account that “Russian terrorists attacked the southern Odesa region with kamikaze drones for three and a half hours,” before adding that 17 of these devices were shot down by air defense systems.
