In Romania, the Carpathian bears have the unfortunate habit of fetching leftover food from the inhabitants of the villages bordering the forests. Brigades are responsible for keeping them away gently, but it’s not that easy, especially since there are so many of them.

For the Romanian gendarmes, it is an absolute emergency. “We have just received a call to inform us of the presence of a bear on the public road”explains one of them. Indeed, in a bend on the side of the national road, a bear weighing more than 300 kilos is looking for food. The gendarmes approach with a pepper bomb. Keep away, as they are potentially aggressive wild animals.

In the Carpathian massif, a still wild forest, small villages are surrounded by bears. Amateur videos are daily. Every night, and even during the day now, the bears go down to the middle of the houses to look for food. Journalists from France Télévisions crisscrossed the town of Predeal (Romania)where signs about bears are everywhere. They have filmed bears several times. The journalist Alban Mikoczyspecial envoy to Predealexplains that the Romanian government has promised a census of bears for next year.
