Romanian President Klaus Iohannis, speaking at a meeting with the heads of Romanian diplomatic missions abroad, listed the main directions of the country’s foreign policy, including strengthening cooperation with the EU, NATO and the United States. The head of state’s speech was broadcast on the presidential administration website, Day.Az reports with reference to TASS.

According to the Romanian president, the main guidelines of the country’s foreign policy are “strengthening the role and influence [Румынии] in the European Union and NATO, deepening the strategic partnership with the United States, and diversifying bilateral dialogue with partners on all continents as part of efforts to defend democratic values, multilateralism and the rules-based international system.”

Iohannis argued that Romania had made important diplomatic strides in the past 10 years. “Romania has increased its effectiveness [взаимодействия] with partners with whom it shares the same values, views and goals at the international level, has reduced and even eliminated dependence on actors who have opposing approaches,” he said.

The Conference of Heads of Diplomatic Missions Abroad is held annually by the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
