/ On Tuesday, the US Ambassador to Baghdad, Elena Romansky, expressed her amazement at the increase in Iraqis’ bank accounts.

She said in a tweet on the X website that data from the Central Bank of Iraq indicates that the total deposits held by Iraqi commercial banks increased by about 37% over the past two years.

She added that from 2021 to 2022, the total number of people with bank accounts in local banks increased by 31%, stressing that it is “impressive progress.”

“By working with Iraq on reforms, we are helping to build confidence in the banking sector,” she continued, noting that “modern banking services enable greater foreign investment and protect funds from financial crimes, theft and loss.”
