This event looks at the challenges related to animal feed, a sector that generates more than $400 billion in annual revenue and produces more than a billion tonnes of livestock feed.

On the menu are working sessions bringing together leaders of global professional groups, political figures and experts from several countries, including Morocco.

In addition to the Kingdom’s deputy permanent representative to UN organizations in Rome, Abdellah Larhmaid, the veterinary inspector of the National Food Safety Office (ONSSA), Redouane Taib, takes part in the scientific debates of this global event.

Speaking at the kick-off of the proceedings, FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu stressed the need to adopt an effective, inclusive, resilient and sustainable approach to ensure the availability, accessibility, quality and safety of animal feed, calling for increased actions in management, grassland restoration and production of fodder and food ingredients.

While livestock feed value chains vary enormously across the globe, “it is crucial that small and medium-sized farmers, who make up most of the world’s livestock producers, benefit from cost-effective, knowledge-based feed solutions.” science,” he continued.

Over two days, the Forum provides an ”inclusive” global discussion platform for national and regional feed regulatory authorities, FAO members, the private sector, researchers, development agencies, to financial institutions and civil society.

The case studies that will be presented will also ‘explore cutting-edge innovations and strategies to improve the production of high-quality, safe and environmentally friendly animal feed’.

According to the UN organization, animal feed generally represents between 60 and 80% of animal production costs. Globally, commercial production or sale of animal feed takes place in more than 130 countries while approximately 8,000 factories produce more than 600 million tons of animal feed per year.
