Rome: Opening of the 175th session of FAO, with the participation of Morocco

Morocco is taking part in this session, which continues until June 14, with a delegation chaired by the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Kingdom to the United Nations Agencies in Rome, Youssef Balla, and composed of the Secretary General of the Ministry of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development and Water and Forests, Redouane Arrach, the Deputy Permanent Representative, Abdellah Larhmaid, and Reda Ayouch, Director of Strategy and Statistics at the Ministry of Agriculture.

On this occasion, the Moroccan delegation highlighted the importance of the 33rd session of the FAO Regional Conference for Africa, organized from April 18 to 20, 2024 in Rabat, welcoming the results achieved at the end of this conference, constituting an important platform for African countries, with a view to reiterating their commitment to sustainable agricultural growth and strengthening the role of FAO in this mission.

In its capacity as President of the FAO Conference for Africa for the next two years, Morocco highlighted the collective commitment of African countries to contribute to agricultural development, within the framework of achieving the SDGs and the 2030 Agenda on the continent.

The Moroccan delegation also invited FAO to strengthen its partnership with African member countries, with a view to optimizing their interventions and more particularly within the framework of the implementation of the roadmap relating to the development of the action plan for the post-Malabo period, within the framework of the Detailed Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP).

The 175th session of the FAO Council will address critical issues such as the challenges of global food security, the impact of geopolitical events on food systems and the implementation of regional agricultural initiatives.

Composed of 49 members, including Morocco, the FAO Council is the executive arm of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, and oversees the implementation of its programs and policies.
