Never has the Saudi football championship been so awaited. Top start, this Friday, of the 2023-2024 season of a league which has been transformed this summer with the arrival of many stars of the round ball. Since Cristiano Ronaldo last January, dozens have left their suitcases in this Gulf country for the next few seasons. Among them, Karim Benzema (Al-Itthad FC), Riyad Mahrez (Al-Ahli SC) or Sadio Mané (Al-Nassr).
Most of these football stars are involved in four of the eighteen teams that make up this championship. Not trivially, the clubs of Al-Nassr, Al-Itthad, Al-Ahli and Al-Hilal, are 75% controlled by the Public Investment Fund (PIF), the sovereign wealth fund of the Kingdom from Saudi Arabia.
During this summer transfer window, the PIF did not hesitate to spend hundreds of millions of euros to offer these four teams some of the most brilliant players of the last decade.
The Saudi Pro League 2023-2024 will be all the more scrutinized this year as many matches will be broadcast on the Canal + group channels (Canal + Foot, Canal + Sport 360 or Foot +). Subscribers to the encrypted channel will be entitled to three posters per day. The opening match of the new season of the Saudi championship this Friday, between Al-Ahli – Alhazem, will be broadcast on Canal + Foot at 8 p.m.
