Ronaldo Singh of India placed 2nd in the 200m Flying category at the Asian Track Cycling Championships and won silver. This made her the first Indian to win silver in the tournament.
Ronaldo Singh challenged Japan’s Kento Yamazaki in the final on Wednesday, the last day of the tournament. Yamasaki, however, maintained its lead and took the top spot. Ronaldo Singh finished 2nd, while Kazakhstan’s Andrei Suke won the bronze medal.
Speaking after the round, Ronaldo said, ‘I am happy to have won silver despite aiming for gold. This is my first silver medal in the competition. As I improve my skills with each match, I get the benefit of it. ‘
This is the 3rd medal won by Ronaldo Singh in this competition. Earlier, Ronaldo had won bronze in the 1km time trial and the team sprint. During the 200m flying qualifying round, she reached the finish line in 9.94 seconds and advanced to the semifinals with a new national record.
India’s Bhojit Yumnam won the bronze medal with 23 points in the 15km Point Race in the junior category. South Korea’s Sangyon Lee won silver and Uzbekistan’s Farouk Boposherov won gold. India’s Sayanika Kokoi placed 3rd in the 10km women’s scratch category.
In the World Class category, India won 2 gold, 6 silver and 15 bronze medals for a total of 23 medals and placed 5th.
