Cristiano Ronaldo (39, Al-Nassr) surpassed 10 million subscribers in less than 12 hours after opening his YouTube channel. This is the fastest number of subscribers to reach 10 million since YouTube was launched.

On the 21st at 10:18 PM (Korean time), Ronaldo posted on his X (old Twitter) the message, “The wait is over,” and announced that he had created a personal YouTube channel. As soccer fans who saw this post flooded in to subscribe to his YouTube channel, Ronaldo’s channel surpassed 1 million subscribers in just 1 hour and 30 minutes after its creation. Ronaldo also posted a celebratory video on Instagram, saying that he had received the “gold play button,” which YouTube gives to channels that reach 1 million subscribers.

Ronaldo’s channel surpassed 10 million subscribers at around 9:30 am on the 22nd. Accordingly, Ronaldo has also obtained the ‘Diamond Button’ which can be received when one has 10 million subscribers. According to the Indian daily Economic Times, Ronaldo’s channel is the fastest channel to reach 10 million subscribers. The previous leader was the cryptocurrency game YouTube channel ‘Hamster Combat’, which took a week to reach 10 million subscribers. Ronaldo’s channel includes videos of him solving quizzes with his girlfriend, Georgina Rodriguez, and videos of Ronaldo rewatching his goal scenes. Ronaldo said, “In the future, I will show my fans how I manage my health and how I prepare for matches through YouTube.”

Ronaldo is a player who shared the title of world’s best striker with Lionel Messi (37, Inter Miami) for about 15 years since the mid-2000s. Messi has won the Ballon d’Or, which is given to the best soccer player in the world in a year, eight times (most ever), ahead of Ronaldo (2nd place), who has won it five times. However, Ronaldo is overwhelmingly popular on YouTube. Messi has been uploading videos to his YouTube channel since 13 years ago, and as of the 22nd, he has 2.38 million subscribers. However, Messi’s channel has an irregular video posting cycle, and since three years ago, he has mainly uploaded videos related to advertisements.
