Rosa Icela highlights the Government’s strategies against violence

Rosa Icela Rodriguez, head of the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) assured that the Government prioritized attention to the causes that generate the violence in Mexico, highlighting the tactics used to combat it.

With the Voluntary Disarmament, He said that the aim was to raise awareness among the population about the risk of possessing firearms at home, for which modules were installed in 22 entities, where 963 handguns; 601 long guns; 3,186 chargers; 194 rounds of ammunition, 246 grenades, 1,908 detonating capsules, and 85,125 cartridges were exchanged; as well as 15 cartridges of dynamite and a mortar projectile, this in the period from December 2021 to date, and in coordination with the Ministry of National Defense, the National Guard, municipal and state governments.

He also mentioned that in 2021 the Networks for the Prevention of Crimes strategy was launched. Violence and Addictions, to reduce the various forms of aggression among young people, as well as drug use, for which 1,226 awareness talks were given, 327 violence prevention days were promoted in primary, secondary and higher education schools in 350 municipalities. With this, 264,389 students, 14,718 educational authorities and 819 adolescents in conflict with the law were reached.

In addition to this, the strategy was also discussed Peace Builders, which is in charge of knocking on doors in the neighborhoods of the 50 municipalities with the highest rate of violence, with the aim of inviting people who do not study or work to join the program Young People Building the Future.

He referred to the Welfare Market which has visited 5,758 communities in 245 municipalities in eight entities, where 12,703,000 new goods have been delivered free of charge to 596,480 families.

Finally, he said, the people were given back what was rightfully theirs, since the strategy had allowed the government to save 737.5 million pesos in the payment of warehouses and yards, where goods confiscated or seized from organized crime were stored.
