The Cuban activist Rosa María Payá met with the elected president of Venezuela, Edmundo González Urrutiain Madrid, Spain.
At the meeting, the opposition leader of the Cuba Decide movement, and defender of human rights on the island, reiterated her support for the fight for democracy in Venezuela, which has been led by María Corina Machado, who promoted González’s candidacy. for the elections on July 28.
In addition, Rosa María Payá urged the Government of Spain to recognize Edmundo González as elected president of Venezuela.
“It is time for Spain and the entire European Union to recognize the President that Venezuelans have given themselves,” said the Cuban opponent in her message published on social networks.
Likewise, the leader of Cuba Decide expressed solidarity with María Corina Machado and the people of Venezuela, who maintain their fight for political change in the oil country, while remembering that free Cubans support the fight to recover democracy.
“Let María Corina and the brave Venezuelan people know that we free Cubans are with you until the end”, he pointed out.
Rosa María Payá also spoke with Edmundo González about the interference of the Cuban regime in the internal affairs of Venezuela, this being one of the main causes of the destruction of democracy in that country.
For his part, the elected president of Venezuela, Edmundo González, assured that it was a “great pleasure” to talk with the Cuban opponent.
“We share the anguish of our people, but also the hope of the arrival of change,” said the Venezuelan president on his X account.
