Exports mainly to the US, China, Australia, Japan, India and the UK, prices range from $9,500 to $16,050 per kilogram
The rose oil business turns out to be booming, as the areas sown and the quantities of color produced are booming.
At the Oil Rose Advisory Board held on Friday at the Department of Agriculture, it became clear that rose growers have cultivated a total area of over 5,623 hectares with plantations this year, which is 300 hectares more than last year.
There is also an increase in the amount of pink color produced. For this year, they are 10,335 tons, while last year the quantities were 9,455 tons. In addition, 9,493 tons were processed for 2024, which is almost 1,000 tons more than last year.
Data on the picking campaign were also presented during the Advisory Board. In general and
the purchase price of the pink color ranged between BGN 3.70 and BGN 4.20.
per kilogram, and at picking – in the range of BGN 1.5-1.8 per kilogram.
There are 73 processors in Bulgaria by 2024, mainly in Sofia, Stara Zagora and Plovdiv. There are 53 distilleries with an annual capacity of more than 15,000 tons of color. Butter rose in our country is grown in 17 regions by 2989 producers, which are mainly concentrated in three regions – Plovdiv, Stara Zagora and Pazardzhik.
Since the beginning of 2024, 936.5 kg of rose oil has been exported to over 30 countries
The quantities went mainly to the USA, China, Australia, Japan, India and the UK. Export prices vary widely – between 9,500 and 16,050 dollars per kilogram, depending on whether the oil is from conventional or organic production.
Despite the growth in numbers, rose growers claim that there are challenges facing the industry. That is why they discussed with the ministry’s team what legislative changes could be made in their favor.
The National Association of Essential Oils, Perfumery and Cosmetics commented to “24 Chasa” that they had discussed several amendments to the law on rose oil.
First of all, during a campaign, control should be carried out with real actions. This includes tracking the contracts concluded between producers and processors, checks for unregulated points and real information about the production sites. This was requested because it turned out that there were 8 production facilities entered in the register, but in fact they were not operating. The same goes for the rose gardens, because there were some that only existed on paper.
An adequate reaction was also needed for one-day contracts. The procedure for their administration is cumbersome and in the morning there is no possibility to make contracts for 200 people in the field, explained the head of the association, Gergana Andreeva. She added that one important thing they want to change is to have a blanket ban on the export of planting material.
“It cannot be caught at the border because it looks like grass. That’s how material was exported to Azerbaijan, plantations were created there and they are now our competition”, Andreeva clarified.
