Roskomnadzor warned of blocking six more VPN services

by time news

Roskomnadzor will impose restrictions on the use of six VPN services in Russia – Betternet, Lantern, X-VPN, Cloudflare WARP, Tachyon VPN and PrivateTunnel, according to the agency’s website.

The regulator notified “about the planned introduction of centralized management in relation to the means of circumventing the restriction of information prohibited by law”. In this regard, Roskomnadzor asked the departments that use these programs to notify the Center for Monitoring and Control of the Public Communication Network “to ensure the operation of technological processes of enterprises and organizations.”

On September 2, Roskomnadzor blocked VPN services Hola! VPN, ExpressVPN, KeepSolid VPN Unlimited, Nord VPN, Speedify VPN, IPVanish VPN, citing their violation of Russian law. As the agency explained, they all help to gain access to prohibited information and resources, including those related to the distribution of drugs, child pornography, extremism and suicidal tendencies. On June 17, VyprVPN and OperaVPN were blocked for the same reason.

Roskomnadzor recalled that companies that need a VPN for the smooth operation of software and applications are included in the “white lists”.

VPN (Virtual Private Network) is a collection of technologies that allow one or more network connections to be provided over another network. Such services can be used, among other things, to bypass blocking of Internet resources.
