In Russia, with the spread of the omicron strain, the proportion of children who fell ill with coronavirus increased from 10 to 15%. This was reported to RIA Novosti by Alexander Gorelov, Deputy Director of the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology (TsNIIE) of Rospotrebnadzor.

According to the specialist, children were also infected with previous strains, but then the infection rate was 10-11%. “In relation to the “omicron”, data come in that children are involved in the epidemiological process in 15% of cases,” Gorelov said.

In the Moscow region, teenagers began to be vaccinated against coronavirus

The frequency of involving children in the epidemiological process suggests that “omicron” is more contagious for all age categories, the expert noted.

From Monday, January 24, in the Moscow region, vaccination against coronavirus of adolescents aged 12 to 17 began. Children will be vaccinated with the Sputnik M two-component vaccine of the Gamaleya Center. The second component of the vaccine will be given three weeks after the first shot.
