New Rotavirus Vaccination Available for Children Born from January 1, 2024

Starting from January 2024, the GGD South Limburg will be offering the rotavirus vaccination as part of the National Vaccination Program. This new vaccination is specifically for children born from January 1, 2024.

Rotavirus is a highly contagious virus that causes inflammation of the stomach and intestines, leading to symptoms such as fever, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. While the infection can occur at any age, young children under 2 years old and the elderly are particularly vulnerable to suffering serious consequences.

The rotavirus vaccination is recommended to be administered before the age of 12 weeks, with the ideal window being between 6 and 9 weeks after birth.

Administered as drops in the mouth, the rotavirus vaccination, known as Rotarix, provides protection against the serious consequences of a rotavirus infection and helps reduce the spread of the virus. The complete vaccination series consists of two doses, with the first administration taking place during the 8-week consultation and the second administration at the 3-month consultation.

The GGD South Limburg is available to address any questions or doubts regarding the rotavirus vaccination. Individuals can complete the contact form on the website or call 088-8805044 during office hours (Monday to Thursday from 8:30 AM – 12:30 PM and from 1:00 PM – 4:30 PM, and Friday from 8:30 AM – 12:30 PM).

Parents of children born from January 1, 2024, are encouraged to learn more about the rotavirus vaccination and consider scheduling an appointment with the GGD South Limburg to ensure their child’s health and well-being.]
