Alexander Zverev is eliminated from the tennis tournament in Madrid. He has no chance against the Spanish star Carlos Alcaraz – and seems almost helpless.
Olympic champion Alexander Zverev clearly lost the eagerly awaited showdown with Spanish tennis star Carlos Alcaraz.
Zverev, who had no chance overall, had to admit defeat to the second in the world rankings 1: 6, 2: 6 in the round of 16 match of the ATP tournament in Madrid. Almost a month before the start of the French Open in Paris, Alcaraz clearly showed the partially helpless Hamburg player the limits.
“It will be a huge test – and I’m looking forward to it too,” Zverev said before the first serve. The 24-year-old from Kempen defeated the ailing Spaniard Jaume Munar 6:3, 6:0 in 85 minutes and thus continued his unexpected winning streak. Altmaier had never made it into the top eight in a Masters 1000 tournament in his career. In the quarterfinals, Altmaier now meets the winner of the game between Alejandro Davidovich Fokina from Spain and Croatian Borna Coric.
