This meeting, which was attended by partner institutions and civil society actors operating in the field of childhood, aims to highlight the laws, public policies and programs aimed at protecting and promoting children’s rights, with particular emphasis on the obstacles that hinder the optimal operationalization of these texts.

Speaking on this occasion, the president of the CRDH of Dakhla-Oued Eddahab, Maimouna Essayed indicated that Morocco adheres to a large number of international instruments relating to the protection of children’s rights, adding that this meeting aims to review the Kingdom’s achievements in this area.

She highlighted the provisions of the Labour Code, particularly Article 143, which states that “minors cannot be employed or admitted to companies or employers before the age of fifteen.”

For his part, the King’s Prosecutor at the Court of First Instance of Oued Eddahab, Saïd Boutouil, stressed that the issue of the legal protection of children is of great importance in Morocco, especially since it reflects the national and international commitment of the Kingdom in favor of child protection.

The legal framework for the protection of children in Morocco, he continued, is based on a set of laws and legislation that guarantee the protection of children against abuse, neglect and exploitation, and strengthen their rights to education, health and social assistance.

He noted, in this wake, that the Moroccan legislator has adopted a legislative policy on this issue in accordance with international standards, in particular the Convention on the Rights of the Child, which Morocco has ratified, adding that this convention is considered a fundamental reference in the development of legislation and policies related to the rights of the child.

During this meeting, a presentation was made by the coordinator of the permanent commission for protection under the CRDH, Mohamed Laghdaf Semlali, during which the emphasis was placed on “the framework of reference for children’s rights”, “monitoring the commitment of States to protect children’s rights” and “observations on childhood in the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region”.
