A round table of leaders of sustainable “green” construction in Azerbaijan was held in Baku.

As reported by Day.Az on Tuesday with reference to Trend, the Sustainable Green Construction Leaders Roundtable in Azerbaijan is a special high-level meeting of leading industry leaders of Azerbaijan, including CEOs, ministers, UAE construction companies, the President of COP29 and the UN High Level Leader for COP29.

This unique event will boost cooperation and sustainable development in the construction sector of Azerbaijan by providing a platform to discuss challenges, explore opportunities and identify enabling policies.

The roundtable highlights the important role of green building in achieving global climate goals and, by marking a major milestone on the road to COP29, sets the stage for targeted business operations and cooperation with significant results for Azerbaijan and beyond.

As the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan Mukhtar Babayev said, Azerbaijan hosting COP29 is a great opportunity for the country and all of us.

“Thanks to COP29, we will be able to show the world the goals we have achieved and our future projects. As a leading country in the region, Azerbaijan will demonstrate its leadership in solving climate problems in the world. We have visited most countries with our team and have seen how great the interest in this process is. We would like our country, as always, to move forward in this issue in order to set an example for the whole world,” added M. Babayev.

He also noted that construction companies must take steps to prevent air pollution.

“Construction activities lead to air pollution. This, in turn, creates negative consequences for human health. How can we reduce this? What innovations can we introduce? We must think about them. We must get results not by signing any statements, but by implementing them. We must get out of the surveillance system. Each company must bear responsibility itself, take steps,” he emphasized.

Chairman of the State Committee for Urban Development and Architecture of Azerbaijan Anar Guliyev emphasized that measures are being taken to create a “green” energy zone in the territories liberated from occupation.

According to him, sustainable construction is becoming increasingly important in the context of the climate crisis caused by global warming.

“By chairing COP29, Azerbaijan is proving its determination to combat global climate change.

In the construction industry, we are implementing a number of measures related to digitalization and environmental protection. In a short time, the installation of a solar energy system on roofs was approved. In the liberated areas, measures are being taken to create a “green” energy zone,” he added.

During the event, the Declaration of Sustainable Green Construction in Azerbaijan was signed.

The declaration was signed by several members of the COP29 Organizing Committee and heads of several construction companies operating in Azerbaijan.

The purpose of the declaration is to demonstrate that construction companies are aware of their responsibility to reduce emissions. The declaration is the first step in this direction, and then there will be a transition from the stage of awareness of responsibility to practical activities. This unique event will give impetus to cooperation and sustainable development in the construction sector of Azerbaijan, providing a platform for discussing challenges, exploring opportunities and identifying favorable policies.
