Royal Air Maroc to Launch First Flights to Alicante-Elche Airport in 2026

A new route connecting Alicante, Spain, and Casablanca, Morocco, will boost tourism and strengthen ties between the two regions.

Alicante-Elche Airport is continuing its expansion with the addition of a new route to Casablanca, Morocco, set to begin in April 2026. This marks the first time Royal Air Maroc, Morocco’s flagship airline, will operate flights to the Costa Blanca region, further solidifying the airport’s position as a key gateway to North Africa. The announcement follows recent route additions by Ryanair and FlyOne, signaling a period of significant growth for the airport.

Expanding Connectivity with Morocco

The new service will provide a direct link between Alicante and Casablanca, a journey of less than two hours. This enhanced connectivity is expected to benefit both leisure and business travelers. According to airport operator Aena, Morocco is already the ninth fastest-growing destination from Alicante-Elche Airport, with 177,769 passengers traveling between January and November of this year.

This new route represents the fourth connection between Alicante and Morocco, joining existing services to Fez, Marrakech, and Tetouan, all currently operated by Ryanair. “This marks a significant step in strengthening the relationship between the two countries,” a senior official stated.

Flight Details and Aircraft

Royal Air Maroc will operate three weekly flights on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, commencing April 1st, 2026. Flights will depart Alicante at approximately 13:10, arriving in Casablanca at 14:00 local time. Return flights will depart Casablanca at 09:30, arriving at Alicante-Elche Airport at 12:10.

The airline will utilize its Embraer 190 aircraft for the Alicante route, offering a capacity of around 100 seats. This will provide approximately 600 seats weekly in both directions. The addition of the Casablanca route is part of a broader expansion for Royal Air Maroc, which has recently unveiled nine new routes, including services to Tripoli, Beirut, Bilbao, St. Petersburg, and Los Angeles.

Strategic Expansion in Spain

The launch of the Alicante-Casablanca route underscores Royal Air Maroc’s growing presence in the Spanish market. The airline already serves major Spanish cities including Madrid, Barcelona, Malaga, and Seville.

Tickets for the Alicante-Casablanca route are already available for purchase. This new service is poised to further increase passenger volume and contribute to the economic growth of the Alicante region.
