At the opening of this assembly, the 1st Vice-President of the Royal Moroccan Golf Federation, Mustapha Zine, read the speech of HRH Prince Moulay Rachid, President of the Federation, in which His Royal Highness recalled the importance given by the FRMG to national solidarity during difficult times, in particular the action of the FRMG, as a citizen institution, which contributed to the national effort to support the victims of the earthquake in the region of El Haouz, indicates a press release from the Federation.
On the sporting front, the same source continued, His Royal Highness praised the performances of the national teams involved in international competitions, noting that in 2023, the elite golfers of the FRMG remarkably represented Morocco at the World Amateur Team Championship (WATC), where the women’s and men’s selections achieved their best historical performances in this competition at the end of which they both finished in the top 25.
At the regional level, “Morocco has consolidated its leadership by winning in all the categories in which our young representatives were involved during the ‘Pan Arab Ladies and Juniors Championship'”, the press release added.
HRH Prince Moulay Rachid’s speech also highlighted the FRMG’s continued efforts to promote sport among young people, with a significant increase in the number of young licensees, which has tripled in the space of two years. This increase is the result of the Federation’s development strategy focused on significant involvement of clubs in opening golf schools and implementing golf in school sports in collaboration with the Ministry of National Education, Preschool and Sports.
According to the press release, the total number of licensed players has seen a significant increase of 25% in 2023, adding that thanks to the efforts of the FRMG and the golf ecosystem, Morocco has taken up the challenge of rejuvenating the national golf cohort with the share of young people increasing from 18% in 2021 to 40% of licensees in 2023.
The document notes that HRH Prince Moulay Rachid also stressed the importance of training sports executives and insisted on this federal priority with the aim of sustaining sports performance, continuing that, in this sense, training in partnership with PGA of America, PGA France, the French Golf Federation and the Office of Professional Training and Work Promotion (OFPPT) was launched and continued in 2023 to strengthen the human capital and skills of the Moroccan golf ecosystem.
His Royal Highness, the press release added, insisted on sustainable development initiatives, to the extent that the Federation has entered into a partnership with the Ministry of the Interior aimed at supporting clubs in order to connect all golf courses to treatment plants by 2027. This eco-responsible commitment illustrates “the desire of HRH Prince Moulay Rachid to urge golf clubs to preserve natural resources for the sustainable practice of golf in Morocco”.
According to the same source, “HRH Prince Moulay Rachid insisted on the role of the golf ecosystem as a catalyst for the tourism development of our country thanks, among other things, to the significant visibility of our destination internationally and the economic and social benefits that result from it.”
Her Royal Highness also recalled that “our country will be represented for the third consecutive edition at the Olympic golf competition in Paris next month. After Maha Haddioui, it is Ines Laklalech’s turn to carry high the flag of our country”, the press release concludes.
During this annual meeting, the members of the assembly proceeded to the closing of the accounts and to the discussion and approval, unanimously, of the moral and financial report for the 2023 financial year as well as the presentation of the action plans and the related budgets.
It was also decided to maintain the annual membership fees for licenses for each category and the affiliation fees for associations, in addition to approving the appointment of Adel Ababou as administrative member of the Royal Moroccan Golf Federation and chairman of the sports medicine commission. In addition, Mohammed Laraki was appointed general director of the FRMG.
At the end of this AGM, the message of fidelity and loyalty addressed by HRH Prince Moulay Rachid, President of the FRMG, to His Majesty King Mohammed VI was read.
