Nordic Heads of State to Celebrate King Carl Gustaf’s 50th Anniversary on the Throne

Stockholm, Sweden – The Nordic royal families, as well as political figures, will gather in Stockholm to celebrate King Carl Gustaf’s 50 years on the throne. The Danish royal couple, the Norwegian royal couple, and the presidential couples of Finland and Iceland are expected to attend the momentous event. Even the heirs to the throne in Norway and Denmark will join in the festivities.

In a press release from the royal house, it was announced that Queen Anne-Marie, the king’s cousin, has also been invited to participate in the celebration. Queen Anne-Marie is the younger sister of Danish Queen Margrethe and served as the Greek Queen for a decade during her marriage to Constantine II of Greece.

Representatives from Sweden will also be present during parts of the festivities. This includes the speaker and prime minister couples, as well as various ministers. Additionally, “representatives of culture, academia, religious communities, business, and the governors” are set to attend the anniversary banquet.

Throughout 2023, Sweden has been honoring King Carl Gustaf’s remarkable 50 years on the throne. He ascended to the throne on September 15, 1973, and has become Sweden’s longest-reigning monarch in history.

The celebrations are set to be a grand affair, bringing together not only Nordic royal families but also political figures and representatives from various sectors. The event will not only mark an important milestone for King Carl Gustaf but also serve as a testament to the enduring legacy of the Swedish monarchy.
