RRR, KGF came after all-India propaganda, we got scared: Laljos

In recent times, foreign language films have seen a trend of empty theaters and Malayalam films have failed in droves. Dhyan Srinivasan had recently said that for the first time in history, a Vishu has passed without the release of Malayalam films. Dhyan added that the films were not released then because they were scared of the big release like KGF and Beast.

But director Laljos says that he did not feel that foreign language films are a threat to Malayalam cinema. Amrita T. for DoolNews. Laljos’ response was in an interview conducted by Suresh.

‘Foreign language films have never felt a threat. Malayalam cinema has gone through many phases. The Telugu movie Shankarabharanam ran for 300 days in Kerala. So Shankar’s rule has not posed any threat to Malayalam cinema.

It is true that I was scared when big budget movies like KGF and RRR came. Such movies come every now and then. After that came films with bigger budgets. No one was afraid, then our films came. And ran.

The marketing of RRR and KGF was so strong. The actors of that movie came here and did road shows, interacted with people and gave interviews to channels.

Their film is coming after all India propaganda. That is why we are afraid. In that way, if a big film comes without propaganda, none of us will be afraid. It’s just that when people felt that they had ventured out for some reason, they got scared and postponed our pictures. It’s not something that happens all the time. So I don’t think there is any threat to Malayalam cinema,’ said Laljos.

Meanwhile, Solomon’s Bees directed by Laljos is releasing on August 18. Joju George, Vincy Aloysius, Darshana, Addis and Shambhu played the lead roles in the film.
