RRR makes history in Japan: beats Rajinikanth’s Muthu

Rajamouli’s RRR has achieved historic success in Japan. The film has been running for 175 days in Japan. The movie continues to be screened in 114 theaters. Rajamouli himself informed about this through social media. When the RRR team arrived in Japan before the film’s release, they got a great reception. RRR broke the record set by Rajinikanth’s film Muthu in 1998 in Japan.

The film was released in theaters on March 24 last year. The film, made at a budget of Rs 550 crore, earned Rs 1,150 crore at the box office. After the theatrical release, the film started streaming on Netflix. The film was on the global trending list for the 14th consecutive week on Netflix.

Rajamouli’s ‘Baahubali’ series, Aamir Khan’s ‘Three Idiots’, Sridevi’s ‘English Wiglish’ and Akshay Kumar’s ‘Padman’ are the highest grossing films in Japan so far. Meanwhile, after winning the Golden Globe Award, the song ‘Natu Natu’ from the film was also nominated for an Oscar.
