Chennai: The Central GST and Intelligence Department has sent a ‘notice’ to composer Ilayaraja to pay Rs 1.87 crore in service tax arrears.

In this regard, the Central GST, intelligence officials said: Composer Ilayaraja, through the patent for his songs, has collected several crores of rupees. However, the service tax was not paid to the government.

In particular, on February 28, the Director General of Investigation sent a summons to Ilayaraja to appear in person and explain that he had not paid taxes for the financial year 2013-14. It said, “I have to appear at 11:00 am on March 10 for an inquiry for non-payment of service tax.”

But Ilayaraja did not appear. Following that, the intelligence department summoned him again to appear on March 28; He still did not appear. Similarly, he did not appear even after being summoned three times. .

Therefore, a final, ‘Notice’ has been sent to him to pay the outstanding amount immediately. So far, he has not given any response, officials said.
