At that time, Muvalur Ramamirtham announced that the marriage assistance scheme would be converted into a higher education scheme and under this scheme a monthly stipend of Rs. 1,000 would be given to students going to higher education from class 6 to 12 in government schools. In this situation, the debate on the budget is taking place in the legislature. Responding to the then Finance Ministry’s demands, Finance Minister PDR Palanivel Thiagarajan announced that higher education would be provided only to students pursuing higher studies in government schools. He also announced that Rs.1,000 per month financial assistance will be given to the students who join. Finance Minister Palanivel Thiagarajan has said that 19 bills passed in the Tamil Nadu Assembly are pending before the Governor and the President. Finance Minister PDR Palanivel Thiagarajan has questioned the legitimacy of the government as the laws passed in the Assembly have not been signed. He said that various measures were being taken to increase and restructure the revenue, adding that an international expert panel had been set up to revive the economy in Tamil Nadu and the expert panel was operating with a service mindset without earning a single rupee.
