Colombo (News 1st) The Ministry of Health has said that the balance of 23 billion rupees required for the purchase of medicines has to be paid to the distributors.
A senior official of the Ministry of Health mentioned that due to this they are unable to accept new bookings.
He pointed out that this is one of the main reasons for shortage of medicines in the country.
The Health Ministry said it has requested the Finance Ministry to immediately release the funds to pay the balance.
Meanwhile, 53 more types of drugs were imported last week through the Indian loan scheme.
