New Delhi: The government has approved the continuation of the PM-ASHA scheme with an expenditure of Rs 35,000 crore to provide better prices to farmers and control price fluctuations of essential commodities for consumers. In the Union Cabinet meeting held on Wednesday, chaired by PM Modi, approval was given to continue the schemes of Pradhan Mantri Annadata Aay Sanrakshan Abhiyan (PM-ASHA). It said that the total financial expenditure by 2025-26 will be Rs 35,000 crore. PM-ASHA is a comprehensive scheme to ensure MSP (minimum support price) to farmers. At the same time, the government on Wednesday approved a subsidy of Rs 24,474.53 crore on fertilizers containing phosphate and potash (P&K) for the upcoming Rabi crop season to provide crop nutrients to farmers at affordable rates. The objective of this decision is to ensure the availability of fertilizers to farmers at subsidized, affordable and reasonable prices. The Government is providing 28 varieties of P&K fertilizers to farmers at subsidized prices through fertilizer manufacturers/importers.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the Union Cabinet’s decision to continue the PM-AASHA scheme will not only help farmers get remunerative prices for their crops but will also benefit consumers. Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said on Wednesday that the government’s decision to provide a subsidy of Rs 24,475 crore on phosphatic and potassic (P&K) fertilizers for the Rabi season will help reduce farmers’ input cost and increase their income. This will ensure availability of fertilizers to farmers at affordable rates.

According to an official statement, approval was given to continue the Pradhan Mantri Annadata Aay Sanrakshan Abhiyan (PM-AASHA) scheme to provide remunerative prices to farmers and control price fluctuations of essential commodities for consumers. According to the statement, the total financial expenditure during the 15th Finance Commission till 2025-26 will be Rs 35,000 crore. The Cabinet approved the Nutrient-Based Subsidy (NBS) rates on P&K fertilizers for Rabi season 2024 (October 2024 to March 2025).
