jpnn.comBANDUNG – Hasan Sadikin Hospital (RSHS) Bandung once treated two patients confirmed positive for the Mpox virus or monkeypox in 2023.

This year, the hospital owned by West Java Province has not received any referrals for patients suspected of having Mpox.

General Dermatologist at RSHS Bandung Prof. Hendra Gunawan said that last year his party received four patients suspected of having the Mpox virus. After conducting examinations according to procedure, the results were that two people were positive for Mpox and two others were negative.

“In the previous year, there were four patients examined with two confirmed positive. Several patients suspected of having Mpox were referred from several hospitals, but after examination, it turned out not to be Mpox,” said Hendra when met at Hasan Sadikin Hospital, Bandung City, Thursday (5/9/2024).

The two Mpox positive patients have now fully recovered after undergoing treatment and isolation in a special room.

“Confirmed fully recovered. One was treated here because it was our first case, the other was isolated independently but we continued to follow up by conducting strict observation until the scab fell off and was declared cured,” he explained.

Hendra explained that transmission of the Mpox virus can occur through direct skin contact with the skin of a patient who is positive for monkeypox, through objects contaminated with the virus, and also droplets or air.

Amid the increasing cases, Hendra asked the public to remain calm and not worry. The public was also asked to continue implementing Healthy and Clean Living Behavior (PHBS) and avoid crowds.
