FUNCHAL, Madeira – Santa Cruz firefighters responded to a call for an assault victim on Rua do Carmo in Funchal, but the injured man was no longer at the scene upon their arrival.
Traffic dispute escalates to assault
An alleged traffic altercation turned violent, leaving one man unconscious and the perpetrator at large.
What happened during the Funchal assault? A traffic fight between two individuals reportedly escalated when one person accused the other of nearly hitting him while crossing the street.
Witnesses stated that when the driver of the car stopped to de-escalate the situation, the pedestrian allegedly attacked him. The victim was reportedly struck multiple times and lost consciousness.
“The pawn accused the driver of trying to run over when he crossed the street and when the driver of the car stopped to ask the man to calm herself was assaulted with several Chapadas and even passed out,” said a popular who watched the aggression.
Following the incident, the alleged assailant fled the scene. The victim, who had been attended by firefighters, was also not at the location when emergency services arrived.
