Whanganui, New Zealand – A 29-year-old man is in police custody following the death of a woman at a rural property, and a warrant for his arrest on firearms charges. The man turned himself in to authorities on December 13, 2023, according to police.

Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a woman on a Whanganui property, with a man now in custody.

Central District Commander Superintendent Dion Bennett said the man arrived at the Whanganui Police Station around 1:30 p.m. on December 13, 2023, and was immediately arrested. He is scheduled to appear in the Whanganui District Court tomorrow,December 14,2023.
“Police on the ground in the area will now be making further inquiries in the investigation,” Superintendent Bennett stated.
the deceased and the arrested man were well-known in the local community as dedicated sheep farmers. The woman was also highly respected within Neapolitan mastiff dog-breeding circles throughout New Zealand. Several dogs found at the property have been placed in the care of friends.
