jpnn.com – JAKARTA – Manchester United still needs player Harry Maguire.
Therefore, MU will activate Harry Maguire’s contract extension clause for one season or until 2026.
The English defender’s contract will expire this season, so MU is threatened with losing Maguire for free in the 2025 summer transfer market.
MU coach Ruben Amorim said he still needed Harry Maguire in his team in this difficult period.
“Harry Maguire would be our option. I spoke to him this morning and I asked him to improve his game on the pitch. He also has to become a better leader, we know the situation he is in at the moment but we are happy to extend his contract,” said Amorim quoted by The Athletic on Friday (3/1).
Harry Maguire was not MU’s first choice when he was still coached by Erik ten Hag, but Amorim was impressed with the player’s efforts to recover.
“He can handle the situation well and we currently need a leader on the field,” he explained.
Maguire joined MU from Leicester City in 2019 for a fantastic fee of £80 million.
Since then, he has made 222 appearances with the Red Devils and has just presented the 2022/23 Carabao Cup trophy.
This season, he has played 16 times and was captain when MI won 4-0 over Everton on 1 December 2024. (antara/jpnn)
