Surreal twist in the unfortunate Rubiales case. With FIFA’s ban on being able to contact Jenni Hermoso, the suspended president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has activated his female relatives to come out to defend him and continue to put the focus and responsibility on the player of the selection that has publicly denounced him for the forced kiss and not about his reprehensible action. At first, Luis Rubiales did not hesitate to expose his three daughters, sitting them in the auditorium of the general assembly in which he announced that he would not resign, and today it was the turn of his mother, who closed this morning in a church in Motril (Granada) and declared himself on hunger strike. Ángeles Béjar has stated that she will continue her protest until a solution is found to “the inhumane and bloody hunt” against her son “for something he does not deserve”. Speaking to the Efe agency, the woman said that she does not plan to leave the Church of the Divine Shepherdess of the Capuchins until “justice” is done with her son.

It is no coincidence that Luis Rubiales turned to the women of his most intimate environment in a failed attempt to demonstrate his “feminism” in opposition to the “false feminism” of those who criticized his attitude and, by the way, to present himself as victim of the situation. The strategy of Rubiales, who has disappeared from the public scene, is to let women take center stage to build the public image that if they are the ones who give their face for him, it will not be so bad for women, in other words, it takes the very trite of confusing being a feminist with having a mother, wife, daughters or sisters.

Mother’s requests

Now the mother of Luis Rubiales, using an institution like that of the Catholic Church, asks Jenni Hermoso to “tell the truth” and “maintain the version she had at the beginning of the events”. He considers, as his son already said in his controversial intervention on Friday at the extraordinary assembly of the RFEF, that “there is no sexual abuse because there is consent from both parties, as shown in the images” and he asks “why are they getting mad at him” and what “is behind this whole story”, since his son “is incapable of harming anyone”. As a mother, she asks for “understanding from everyone because this situation can happen to anyone”, she said.

Rubiales’ cousin: “The mother, with the faith she has, asks God, because she no longer knows where to hold on to.”

Another relative who has come to the defense is Vanesa Ruiz, a cousin of Rubiales, who has appeared before the media to repeat the suspended president’s speech. This includes questioning the facts reported by the player and therefore her word: “Whoever spends five minutes with Luis will know that he is a beautiful person with a big heart. I grew up with him and it is being very unfair to him. We are suffering a lot with this situation.” Ruiz, who has appeared in front of the media with sunglasses and an affected voice, has also attacked Jenni Hermoso: “If this woman felt harassed from the beginning she would not have changed her version three times.”

Demelza Béjar, another cousin of the leader, also spoke, who expressed herself in very similar terms: “It is shameful the lynching that is being done to an honest and loyal person. It is very unfair. My cousin never life would hurt any woman. There’s something behind it that’s not normal.” Like the other tough families, Hermoso pointed out: “If she had felt harassed, it would have been noticed. She has never been seen uncomfortable with the situation.” Finally, Béjar called Rubiales’ attitude at Friday’s meeting “perfect” and made him his spokesperson: “He knows he hasn’t done anything wrong and that he has to keep a calm mind and keep -be firm”.

The position of the Rubiales family contrasts with the many voices that have condemned the attitude of the president of the RFEF in recent days. At the top, all the players of the national team, world champions who have given up playing with Spain until the current leaders fail. But also political representatives, players, coaches, athletes from other disciplines, clubs… One of the last to do so was Joan Laporta, who spoke yesterday: “Rubiales’ behavior is unacceptable, inappropriate and even shameful . In no way did we want to exonerate him. We are with the players. Jenni, we are with you,” said Barça’s highest representative after a rather tepid first official statement from the Blaugrana club.
