A few months after the Mohamed Haouas affair, the world of rugby is once again concerned by incidents of domestic violence. Right pillar Wilfrid Hounkpatin was dismissed by Castres Olympique after the opening of legal proceedings, according to information from Rugbyrama. The Tarn club confirmed to the media that the 32-year-old player was “banned from appearing at his workplace”.

Under contract with the CO until 2026, Hounkpatin (a selection with the Blues in 2021) was presented to the prosecution on Wednesday. The events allegedly took place on Monday, during an argument between the player and his partner. She would have received blows from the rugby player. “Such actions (if proven) would be in total contradiction with the values advocated by Castres Olympique,” reacted the club. The player will be judged on April 3 before the Castres judicial court.

Wilfrid Hounkpatin is one of the sure values of the Top 14 in his position and was still starting with the CO on Saturday against Racing, two days before the alleged facts. Several players from the championship were accused and then convicted in 2023 for the same reason, such as George Tilsley (ex-Perpignan) or Mohamed Haouas (ex-Montpellier). This conviction did not prevent the latter from regaining a contract at Biarritz Olympique a few weeks later but had deprived him of the Rugby World Cup with the XV of France, of which he was nevertheless an important player during Fabien’s first mandate.
