While Stade Toulousain and La Rochelle are preparing to play in the Top 14 final this Saturday, the players of Stade Français, eliminated in the play-off by Racing (20-33), are on vacation. However, in an interview with The teamHans-Peter Wild, president and owner of the capital club, nevertheless believes that “the season has been successful”.

To justify the series of seven games without a win at home against Racing, he mentioned the competitor’s “beautiful team, with very expensive players” before recalling that his is in the same situation but with players “who are not not good enough”. To improve this, the Swiss boss would like to “be able to keep (his) best players”, recalling that the departures of Jonathan Danty (La Rochelle), Gaël Fickou (Racing 92) and Waisea Nayacalevu (Toulon) have been detrimental. The training center has also been the target of his criticism. He considered it “not efficient enough”, deploring the bad relationship with the first team and the drain of talent but wishing to correct this with the takeover of the center by Kobus Potgieter. “He developed my academy in Germany, he knows how to develop a training center,” he says of the performance manager.

“Checks are over! »

Finally, recruitment is not at the level he would like either. Hans-Peter Wild speaks of it as a “problem”: “we have no structure”. This situation should improve with the arrival of Laurent Labit and Karim Ghezal in place of Gonzalo Quesada. “Gonzalo is a very good coach who took us to a new level. (…) I am counting on Laurent (Labit) and Karim (Ghezal) but also Morgan (Parra), a real leader, and Paul (Gustard) to take us to the next one”.

To solve all these problems, the Ile-de-France president will not, however, count on money. “Checks are over!” he assures us. Money cannot buy titles and victories, even more so in rugby. It’s all about people and management. »

Asked about the absence of trophies since his arrival in 2017, Wild does not hide his impatience but underlines: “In football you can buy very expensive players, but that does not seem to work either. Look at Paris Saint-Germain”.

Finally, he confirms the prospect of moving to Camp des Loges: “It will help us grow even more. We will be there in the summer of 2024″.
