A “maximum” alert level. This is what Laurent Nuñez would have mentioned this Friday on the situation of risk of attacks in Paris. The prefect of police Laurent Nuñez gathered around him the first deputy (PS) of Anne Hidalgo, Emmanuel Grégoire, as well as several district mayors to address the tensions felt after the Hamas attack against Israel, and obviously the Arras attack this Friday morning.

An update was made on security arrangements for major weekend events. “The prefect’s objective is for the moment to maintain the events which must take place in the Paris metropolitan area, including the rugby fan zone,” assures a participant in the meeting.

“Renewed attention”

According to this same source, “we are nevertheless not immune to a change in doctrine over the weekend, or even by the end of the day, according to orders from the Presidency of the Republic or the Ministry of the Interior”. The fan zones are therefore maintained – for the moment – for the quarter-finals taking place this weekend.

What about the security system? The Paris police headquarters simply mentioned a mobilization of “several hundred police officers, gendarmes and firefighters (…) around the Stade de France, near the Rugby Villages Place de la Concorde in Paris and Place Victor-Hugo in Saint -Denis.”

The prefecture announces, as a bonus, “renewed attention and reinforced security” linked “to the circumstances” in large gathering places. According to our information, the question of this security and a greater number of police forces has not yet been resolved. Everything will depend on the number of police forces necessary to secure other events, such as potential pro-Palestinian demonstrations.
