It’s a historic first that the Springboks are in no hurry to recall. More than ten years before the emblematic current captain Siya Kolisi, another black player wore the captain’s armband in the jersey of the South African selection. His name: Chiliboy Ralepelle, hooker spent two years with Toulouse (2013-2015) and honored in 2006 during an unofficial match against a world selection. But the former front row, who played in the 2011 World Cup, has three positive doping tests to his credit. The last one, an anabolic, cost him an eight-year suspension, handed down in 2020.
